Como está o mercado do café ? (How's the coffee market?)

Arabica coffee futures are expected to devalue throughout 2012, pressured by the expectation of a large crop in Brazil, the world's largest producer, and by the prospect of reducing consumption in emerging economies.

Although the price of Arabica coffee has risen recently, we see the prices of coffee with downtrend this year, mainly because of Brazil's harvest. In 2012/13 harvest, which begins to be taken in the second quarter, Brazil is expected to produce over 50 million bags of 60 kilos.

Estimated prices for Arabica coffee will fall to 170 cents per pound weight on the New York Stock Exchange until the fourth quarter of this year. In this first quarter, shall be, on average, in 225 cents per pound weight.

As the demand consumption growth should slow down to 1.3% in 2011/12, of 2.8% in 2010/11. The recoil is pulled by macroeconomic issues and led by emerging economies. These savings, argued, are particularly sensitive to the price increase.

Amid the rise of the global economic crisis concerns, the agricultural commodities drop his pace and accentuated reached new lows in the stock exchanges.

In Chicago, it suffered the largest corn tumble in almost a year. In New York, the minimum reached sugar in three months. Cocoa plummeted to the lowest level in more than a year, and practically has zeroed the earnings that had in 2011.

All markets were punished by the outbreak of risk aversion, exacerbated by investor disappointment with the measures announced by the Fed and the impasse created by Greece in the European Union. Investors liquidated positions in assets susceptible to economic growth, as in the case of commodities, and sought safety in the dollar, which restrengthened -the dollar index, which measures the greenback's performance against a basket of major currencies, rose 1.41%.

Despite the race against commodities, investors see limits to fall more sustained. The signs of a slowdown in demand are still insufficient to eliminate the risk of high oil quotations, the beans and some industrial metals. The difficulties in the supply side should keep markets volatile and sensitive to stimulus policies to economic growth, making it even more difficult to find the right balance between growth and inflation.

It’s a possible fall in global demand for raw materials need to be looked in the light of "exceptional" performance of the past 12 months. If it demand begins to collapse, will be from extremely high levels.
