Mercado do café (Coffee market)

O vencimento março recuou 5 dólares, a US$ 291,80 a saca.

The market failed to work above 222 cents and ended up looking for lower levels.

The coffee market in New York has been driven mainly by technical points. On 9/02, contracts operated in high over almost the whole trading session, following a trend that began earlier in the week. In the last hour of trading, but prices retreated.

The market in New York has had difficulty to break and to follow at this point. Fragile, the market turned, without complying with the support of 220 cents.

Some fundamental factors, however, gives firmness to the market. It’s the recent report by the International Coffee Organization (ICO), which revised down its projection for world production in 2011/12. The projection is estimated at 130.2 million bags compared to 132.4 mi bags. It is "a factor of firmness to the market, which follows with constrained global supply and demand still heated".

Another important point to note is that even though the Brazil produces between 49 million bags and 52.2 million bags, according to Conab disclosed the in January, the balance between supply and demand is still fair. The Brazil consumes an average of 19.5 million bags of coffee per year and exports around 32.5 million bags, totaling 52 million bags. This shows that even though the world's largest producer reap record harvest, the same will not be enough to increase stocks and supply the demand growing world.

The physical market remains calm, loose business. "Just one or another batch is negotiated," said a broker of Santos (SP). The comment in the town of Santos is that coffee, 6 type with 15% of refusals, was trading at R$ 476 /bag.

Researchers at the Center for advanced studies in applied economics (Cepea/Esalq/USP) report that the international market of Arabica coffee has strong volatility yesterday. After opening with slight gains, there have been sharp drop during the afternoon. The oscillation was related to uncertainties regarding balance between supply and demand in the world café.
